Waiting to Reply - Mindful Communication

It's very easy to respond quickly - sometimes in haste. It's also very easy to create more negativity and to perpetuate an argument or unpleasant situation by replying instantly. Delay. Delay your responses. Think. Clear your head. Meditate, if that's something you do to achieve clarity. You are not obligated to respond to that email, text or comment immediately. You have control of your mind, thoughts and ultimately, your actions. Practice mindful communication and do just that - be mindful.


When faced with an uncomfortable or heated form of communication, wait. Wait to reply. Analyze what your responses may do to the situation. Is it actually how you feel or how you instinctively react? Think deeply about the outcomes your message may bring. Then walk away. You will reduce the amount of misspoken words and unnecessary emotional stress. Delay your response and your response will be more thought out, accurately expressing your actual feelings and more likely to be more calm.


Try to think more rather than react. Your relationships and your mind will thank you.
